School Christmas Tree Competition

School Christmas Tree Competition

14 Dec 2017

Cllr David Nicholas (Chair) and Cllr Allan Matheson (Vice Chair) were made very welcome at all of the schools in the area on Monday morning for the judging of the School Christmas Tree Competition.  The quality of the decorations on the trees has definitely been improving over recent years and that makes the judging particularly hard.  Well done to all of the young people who made the decorations, it is wonderful to see such creativity on display.

Congratulation to YGG Castellau for their wonderful  “natural” tree which took 1st place.  Particularly catching the judges eye where the stars made from sycamore tree seed pods!

Choosing a 2nd was not easy and the prize was awarded to both Llantrisant Primary School for their “Love & Peace” tree and Tonysguboriau who had been scavenging for materials for their woodland themed Christmas tree.

Y Pant Comprehensive took fourth place with their “Goodwill to all” Tree.  Cllr Matheson and Cllr Nicholas were pleased to see that comprehensive age students had still been involved in the making of the decorations –which were to a very high standard and could easily have been mistaken for shop bought.  Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive school in turn took a highly commended.

Highly Commended certificates were awarded to Llwyncrwn Primary School who had a wonderfully original and eye catching “Grinch” themed tree.  Penygawsi Primary School who had a World Peace themed tree full of doves, the decorations were once again of an excellent standard, and also to the pupils at Gwaunmeisgyn Primary school who had obviously worked hard on a wonderfully colourful display of Christmas cheer.

Well done to everyone who took part!  We hope the prize money will help towards Christmas festivities or craft activities.
